Amman, Jan 12 (Petra) — Border Guard Forces engaged armed smugglers in pre-dawn clashes Sunday along Jordan’s northern frontier, where infiltrators attempted to breach the border under cover of fog.
The exchange resulted in one smuggler killed, with the remaining group retreating into Syrian territory, according a Jordan Armed Forces (JAF) statement.
Border Guards seized substantial quantities of narcotics along with two AK-47 assault rifles and a pistol following the engagement. All seized materials were transferred to competent authorities.
A Border Guard officer sustained injuries during the operation and was airlifted to Al-Hussein Medical Center in Ammam, where he is reported in stable condition.
The army reaffirmed its commitment to deploying all necessary capabilities to forcefully prevent infiltration and smuggling attempts, maintaining the kingdom’s security and stability.
