Occupied Jerusalem, Jan 12 (Petra) — Dozens of Jewish settlers, escorted by Israeli police, stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque/Haram Al-Sharif in occupied Jerusalem on Sunday, in the latest breach of the holy compound.
Groups of hardline settlers broke into the complex from Al-Maghariba Gate, under the heavy guard of police, roamed the plaza and performed prayers in a provocation against Muslim worshipers and guards, the Jerusalem Waqf (endowments) Department, the custodian of the mosque, said in a statement.
Settlers and far-right Jews stage morning and evening incursions into Al-Aqsa in an attempt at the temporal division of the mosque, as police tighten the entry of Palestinians, keeping large numbers of worshipers from the shrine.
