Amman, January 21 (Petra) — The Parliamentary Environment and Climate Committee, chaired by MP Hamza Hawamdeh, convened on Tuesday to review a memorandum submitted by MPs regarding the reintroduction of the Daylight Saving Time.
In its statement, the committee called on the government to clarify the rationale behind its decision to discontinue the semi-annual clock changes. The statement also emphasized the importance of assessing the decision’s economic, social, environmental, and health impacts, citing growing public demands for its reconsideration.
The committee stressed that the government should address complaints about the decision’s effects on public safety, health, and increased energy consumption.
Following its discussions, the committee recommended presenting an official memorandum to the government, urging an explanation of the basis for adopting the permanent standard time, including any studies underpinning the decision. It also called for a comprehensive evaluation of the decision’s consequences compared to the outcomes of previous time adjustment policies.
