Logistics center in KHBTDA to serve as core for dry port, says GM

Mafraq, Feb. 1 (Petra) – Liza Dughmi, the director-general of the King Hussein Bin Talal Development Area (KHBTDA) in Mafraq, stated that the establishment of a logistics services center in the development area is considered the foundation of a dry port, covering an area of 3,700 dunams, including 900 dunams designated as a free zone. This follows the approval of the Cabinet.

In a statement on Saturday, Dughmi highlighted that all necessary infrastructure services, such as water and electricity, have been provided to the center. She noted that it is the responsibility of investors to develop the land where they plan to set up their projects according to the proposed plans.

She explained that a preliminary comprehensive plan has been drawn up for the land designated for the port, and an agreement has been reached with the General Customs Department to allocate 50 dunams for the establishment of a customs center within the project to facilitate and expedite customs procedures for investors, in line with the government’s approach.

Dughmi also presented the second phase of the project, which involves utilizing the national railway, given the proximity of the development area to the railway, as per the Ministry of Transport’s plans. The dry port project will include various facilities and services such as entry and exit points, customs control, clearance, temporary storage, retail and distribution services, packaging, handling services, container management, as well as offices for clearance agents, shipping, communication facilities, and other civil services.
