Beirut, February 2 (Petra) — Hundreds of displaced southerners returned to their villages in southern Lebanon following forced evacuations due to clashes between Hezbollah and the Israeli army on Sunday.
According to a Lebanese security source, residents arrived early this morning at the western entrances to Mays al-Jabal, Houla, Kfar Kila, Deir Mimas, Aitaroun, Yaroun and Maroun al-Ras.
The source reported that in Maroun al-Ras, residents gathered near the Lebanese army as they faced off against the Israeli military, which responded by firing shots into the air.
In Adaisseh, several residents assembled at the town’s entrance, where they were met with gunfire from the Israeli army after it set several homes in the area, including those in “Rab Thalatheen,” ablaze.
Nabatieh witnessed the extensive flying of Israeli drones, which were accompanied by bursts of gunfire directed at residents near the entrance to Houla’s western neighbourhood.
Separately, an Israeli naval force apprehended two Lebanese fishermen off the coast of Naqoura. One of the fishermen was later released, while the other remains in detention.
The escalation comes amid ongoing tensions in the region, with both military and civilian targets increasingly caught in the crossfire.
