Amman, Feb. 2 (Petra) – Jordan Hotel Association (JHA) and Royal Marine Conservation Society of Jordan (JREDS) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) Sunday to raise hotels’ eco-awareness to integrate environmentally friendly practices, in accordance with international standards.
The memo, which was signed by JHA Vice Chairman, Hussein Hilalat, and JREDS’s Acting Executive Director, Khaled Kurdi, comes within the framework of supporting Jordanian hotels to obtain “Green Key” certificate, an accredited international eco-label that enhances eco-sustainability in the tourism sector and helps hotels in global marketing and e-promotion.
Under the memorandum, the two sides will hold lectures and training courses for hotels interested in obtaining “Green Key” certificate and implement awareness programs that highlight importance of sustainable environmental practices in the sector.
The memo would also help Jordan’s hotels achieve the necessary standards to obtain this certificate, which contributes to improving “resource efficiency” and reducing environmental impact, while enhancing economic opportunities for the target establishments.
In a statement, JHA stressed the importance of this joint cooperation in achieving “sustainable” development and enhancing Jordan’s role as a “leading” tourist destination in adopting global environmental standards, which would “positively” reflect on the hotel sector and the entire national economy.
