Water Minister, Arab Fund Delegation Discuss Strategic Cooperation

Amman, February 23 (Petra) — Minister of Water and Irrigation Raed Abu Saud met on Sunday with a delegation from the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development to discuss cooperation, particularly in strategic water projects, including the national carrier project.

The delegation included the fund’s Chairperson and Director General Mirza Hassan, Technical Director Imad Imam, and Economic Advisor Mahmoud Nabi.

Abu Saud emphasized Jordan’s commitment to advancing the Red Sea desalination project, a key initiative aimed at securing sustainable water resources through partnerships with local and international private sectors. He highlighted the importance of utilizing renewable energy to meet water demands and praised the Arab Fund’s interest in contributing to this critical initiative.

He also expressed gratitude for the support of Kuwait and the Arab Fund in addressing Jordan’s water challenges, noting the impact of climate change, drought, and population growth. He underscored government efforts to develop water resources, enhance efficiency, and adopt modern agricultural technologies while reducing water losses and expanding renewable energy programs.

For his part, Hassan reaffirmed the Arab Fund’s commitment to supporting the national carrier project, advocating for strategic partnerships between the public and private sectors. He outlined the fund’s strategy to assist Jordan and other member states in financing high-impact projects, increasing employment, and advancing vocational and technical training to mitigate unemployment.

Established in 1968 and headquartered in Kuwait, the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development has financed 51 projects in Jordan, focusing on health, education, social development, water, and sanitation.
