
National Museum Hosts Italian Jewellery Exhibition
Muscat, 9 Feb (ONA) —- The National Museum, in collaboration
with the Italian Embassy in Muscat, is currently hosting an exhibition titled
“DIVA! Italian Glamour in Fashion Jewellery”, which highlights the
beauty and creativity of Italian fashion.
The opening ceremony took place today under the patronage of HH
Sayyidah Dr. Mona Fahad Al Said, Assistant Vice Chancellor for International
Cooperation at Sultan Qaboos University and Vice Chairman of the Board of
Trustees of the National Museum. The event was attended by individuals of
interest in culture and artistry. The exhibition will run until 9 March, 2025.
Curated by Professor Alba Cappellieri, Professor of Jewellery
Design at Politecnico di Milano and Director of the Vicenza Museum of
Jewellery, and her team, the exhibition features more than (100) unique pieces
of Italian fashion jewellery. These jewels reflect the aesthetic and cultural
transformations in modern Italian jewellery, showcasing how the style has
evolved over time in response to societal changes and technological advances in
jewellery-making.
The exhibition celebrates the craftsmanship and creativity that
define modern Italian jewellery, tracing its development from the 1950s to the
present.
In his speech during the opening ceremony, Pierluigi D’Elia,
Ambassador of the Italian Republic to the Sultanate of Oman, remarked:
“The exhibition celebrates beauty, creativity, and Italian craftsmanship,
highlighting how art transcends borders to create a global language that speaks
of culture, harmony, innovation, and beauty.”
He added, “We are honoured to collaborate with the National
Museum and Professor Alba Cappellieri to bring this unique exhibition to the
Sultanate of Oman. We hope it inspires a deeper appreciation for the art and
creativity of Italian jewellery”.
On his turn, Jamal Hassan Al Moosawi, Secretary-General of the
National Museum, emphasized the importance of hosting “DIVA! Italian
Glamour in Fashion Jewellery”. He noted that the exhibition embodies
Italian beauty and creativity in the jewellery-making industry, craftsmanship,
and the extraordinary blend of tradition with modernity which provides a
significant opportunity to experience the unique Italian beauty.
He further stated, “We expect this exhibition to inspire
visitors and Omani artisans and enhance their knowledge of the history and
artistry of Italian jewellery, as well as its profound influence on global
culture. We look forward to continued collaboration that fosters cultural
dialogue between our countries”.
Professor Alba Cappellieri also emphasized that modern jewellery
is no longer viewed simply as an accessory but unique artefact that reflect the
identity of an evolving and civilized society.
She described “Diva!” as a journey into the heart of
Italian creativity, celebrating the stories of the artisans and designers who
have shaped it’’. She expressed her pleasure in sharing this celebration of
Italian glamour with the Omani people.
This
exhibition, sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and
International Cooperation, represents a cultural dialogue between the Italian
Republic and the Sultanate of Oman, strengthening the bonds of friendship and
mutual cooperation between the two countries. It also offers visitors the
opportunity to explore the artistic and aesthetic history of modern Italian
jewellery, which is considered one of the most prominent indicators of global
Italian creativity.
