Secretary General: Oman’s US-Yemen Mediation Reflects Its Role in Bolstering
Regional Security
Riyadh,
7 May (ONA) —- Jassim Mohamed Al Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf
Cooperation Council (GCC), stated that the mediation efforts undertaken by the
Sultanate of Oman between the United States and the relevant authorities in the
Republic of Yemen—which led to a ceasefire agreement between the two
sides—exemplify Oman’s constructive and active role in supporting regional
security and stability.
He
emphasized that the GCC states, through their wise and balanced policies,
continue to work toward all measures that promote security and peace at both
the regional and international levels.
The
GCC Secretary-General also reiterated the importance of de-escalation to
safeguard regional security and stability, as well as to uphold the right of
maritime navigation in accordance with international law and the provisions of
the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
