Jordan condemns extremist intrusions, attempts to desecrate Al-Aqsa Mosque

Amman, May 12 (Petra) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates strongly condemned the latest incursions by extremists into Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif, including an attempted desecration by bringing a ritual offering into one of its courtyards an unprecedented act amid ongoing violations of the historical and legal status quo, carried out under the protection of Israeli occupation forces.

Ministry spokesperson Sufian Qudah reiterated Jordan’s unequivocal rejection of these provocative actions by extremist settlers and the facilitation of their repeated incursions by Israeli police, calling them blatant violations of international law and international humanitarian law, as well as the established legal and historical status quo governing Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

Qudah warned of the serious consequences of continued violations and urged Israel, as the occupying power, to immediately cease all provocative practices by extremist settlers aimed at altering the status quo at Al-Aqsa Mosque, including any attempts to impose temporal and spatial divisions of the site.

He reaffirmed that the entirety of the 144-dunum Al-Aqsa Mosque is a place of worship solely for Muslims and that the Jerusalem Awqaf Department under the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs, and Holy Places is the sole legal authority responsible for administering Al-Haram Al-Sharif and regulating entry to it.
