London, May 17 (Petra) — Tens of thousands of demonstrators supporting the Palestinian cause participated in a large-scale march through the streets of London on Saturday to mark the 77th anniversary of the 1948 Nakba (catastrohpe).

According to the Independent, the march, organised by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, began at the Embankment, passed iconic landmarks including Big Ben, crossed the River Thames to Waterloo, and concluded in front of the British government headquarters at Downing Street.

The campaign stated that the march aimed to “commemorate the Nakba and demand government action to end the ongoing ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.”

The Independent noted that London’s Metropolitan Police estimated the number of participants at around 20,000, while organisers claimed attendance was closer to 100,000, describing it as one of the largest recent pro-Palestinian demonstrations in the UK.

Protesters traveled from across the country, including remote areas such as Wales and northern England, chanting slogans calling for an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories and the lifting of the blockade on Gaza.
