Women’s Race to Promote Smoking Cessation, Healthy Living on World No Tobacco Day

Amman, May 18 (Petra) – The women’s race scheduled for May 30 is set to support ongoing efforts to encourage smoking cessation and promote healthy lifestyles, coinciding with World No Tobacco Day.

Run Jordan Association is finalizing preparations to host the annual race, which this year carries an added message of public health awareness. By aligning with World No Tobacco Day, the event reinforces the marathon’s broader objective of encouraging women to embrace active, health-conscious lifestyles.

The race aims to promote physical activity as a way of life and raise awareness about the harmful effects of smoking and the importance of quitting, particularly in light of the rising smoking rates among Jordanian adults among the highest in the region.

The event also underscores the association’s and its partners’ commitment to empowering women and increasing their participation in sports within a supportive environment that fosters community health and awareness.

Organized under the slogan “Run for You,” the race is held in cooperation with the Greater Amman Municipality and supported by several sponsors. Jordan Bromine serves as the main sponsor, while Arab Bank is the gold sponsor and the Jordan Phosphate Mines Company the silver sponsor. This cooperation highlights the value of public-private partnerships in backing targeted health and community-driven initiatives.

Director General of Run Jordan Lina Kurd said, “This year we launched an awareness campaign alongside the women’s race to mark World No Tobacco Day. It aims to underscore the critical role of sports in promoting public health and preventing the dangers of tobacco use. We believe that women’s participation is essential to building a healthier and more sustainable society.”

Final preparations are underway to secure race routes in Al Hussein Parks, with logistical services in place to ensure participants’ safety and comfort. Water stations will be available along the course, and volunteer teams will be deployed to assist runners throughout the event.

The sporting event, which also supports sports tourism, includes two race categories: 5.2 km and 2.6 km. Female participants are scheduled to gather at 8:00 a.m., with the race beginning at 9:00 a.m. Races for participants with disabilities and blind runners will begin 10 minutes after the start of each respective race.
