Amman, May 18 (Petra) – The Ministry of Agriculture announced Sunday the suspension of imports of live poultry and non-heat-treated poultry products from Brazil, following reports of avian influenza cases in the country.

The decision, described as precautionary, aligns with the Ministry’s policy of safeguarding public health, protecting local livestock, and ensuring food security.

In a statement, the Ministry said the suspension will remain in effect until further notice, pending an improvement in Brazil’s epidemiological situation and confirmation from the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) that the outbreak is under control. The resumption of imports also depends on Brazil’s implementation of necessary preventive and control measures.

The Ministry clarified that the ban applies to all types of live poultry and poultry products that have not undergone sufficient heat treatment to neutralize the virus. Products that meet international safety standards through adequate heat processing are exempt.

The Ministry reaffirmed that its technical teams continue to monitor animal health developments in exporting countries and emphasized its readiness to take any further action necessary to protect public health and the agricultural sector.
