Amman, May 19 (Petra) – Minister of Government Communication and Government Spokesperson Mohammad Momani said on Monday that Jordan’s independence reflects a solid national will and harmony between the leadership and people to build a strong, sovereign, and esteemed state.

“The journey to independence was guided by the wisdom and vision of the Hashemite leadership, which laid the foundations of a modern Jordanian state,” he told a celebration at Al-Khwarizmi University of Technology to mark Jordan’s 79th independence day.

“Independence is a historic turning point that symbolizes freedom, sovereign decision-making, and the starting point of a modern state-building process led by the Hashemites with full participation by Jordanians,” he said, adding that the state now pursues a path of modernization rooted in justice and equality to advance the nation and improve living standards.

Momani recalled the sacrifices of Jordanians, whose dedication and bravery are an inspiration for progress and resilience, highlighting the Kingdom’s achievements since independence, including strong institutions, democratic advancement, youth empowerment, and safeguarding human dignity.

He said that despite regional turmoil, Jordan remained an oasis of security promoting dialogue and cultural exchange, adding that independence day is an opportunity to reinforce national identity, responsibility and civic engagement.

Momani congratulated His Majesty King Abdullah II and HRH Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, reaffirming people’s allegiance to their leadership and dedication to national building.

Mohammad Qaddoumi, Chairman of the Board at Al-Khwarizmi College, said independence was achieved through the wisdom of the Hashemites and dedication of people, saluting the armed forces for their sacrifices, particularly in Palestine.

Maher Salim, Dean of Al-Khwarizmi University of Technology, highlighted independence day as “a symbol of national aspirations and pursuit of self-determination in accordance with the principles of the Great Arab Revolt.”

The celebration featured a documentary screening, musical performances and the opening of a special exhibition depicting the occasion.
