Amman, May 19 (Petra) – The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply Monday warned the public not to engage with unlicensed real estate promotion campaigns by unlicensed platforms inside shopping malls.

These promotions often involve misleading and unrealistic offers that are a clear violation of legislation governing promotional activities, said ministry spokesperson Yanal Barmawi, adding that 19 such violations had so far been recorded.

Many of these fall under the “timeshare” model, a vacation property ownership arrangement where multiple individuals purchase the rights to use a single property, such as an apartment or resort, for designated periods during the year, Barmawi explained.

He warned that violators face fines ranging from JD1,000 to JD10,000 and three months to one year in prison under Clause (5) of Article (12) of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Law. Repeat offenses may result in harsher penalties.

The Ministry has intensified inspection efforts through the Market Control Directorate, in collaboration with administrative governors, to crack down on these activities and refer violators to the judiciary.

Barmawi urged mall and shopping center owners not to allow such illegal promotions or face legal action, stressing that any valid promotions must get prior approval from the Ministry to ensure transparency and protect consumer rights.
