Amman, May 19 (Petra) — Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi said the ongoing hunger crisis in the Gaza Strip constitutes a “severe and inhumane humanitarian emergency.”

In a statement posted on X on Monday, Safadi underlined that the international community bears moral and legal responsibilities to address the crisis unfolding in Gaza. He described the starvation of 2.3 million Palestinians as a crime that demands immediate global action.

Safadi highlighted that protecting the people of Gaza from death due to starvation, dehydration and lack of medical supplies should be a top priority for the international community. He called for urgent efforts to lift the Israeli blockade on Gaza and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid.

He stressed the necessity of allowing UN organisations to distribute aid effectively and called for the swift conclusion of a prisoner exchange deal, alongside an immediate end to hostilities.

Safadi concluded by reaffirming that Israel must permit UN agencies to operate freely in delivering aid to Palestinians in Gaza.
