Ramallah, May 19 (Petra) — Some 219 Palestinian journalists and media workers have been killed by Israeli forces in a systematic policy targeting the media, the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate said.

It said in a report on Monday that occupation forces killed 219 media workers, including 30 female journalists, and continued to target the families of reporters, especially in the Gaza Strip, where at least 430 journalists have been injured by Israeli fire and rockets since October 7, 2023.

The Israeli army also killed at least 685 members of journalists’ families and at least 1,000 journalists in Gaza had been subjected to repeated displacement from the north to the south of the Strip, living in unsafe and abysmal conditions with no electricity and internet that are needed for their work, it said.

Israeli occupation authorities have arrested approximately 180 journalists since October 2023, including 17 female reporters who were released, 39 male journalists from the Gaza Strip, and 42 held under administrative detention, according to the syndicate and Palestinian prisoner organizations.

Forty-eight journalists remain in detention in the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip, in addition to six who were arrested before October 2023 and remained in detention, they said.

As part of the war on the media, Israeli forces used airstrikes and bombardment, demolishing 115 media institutions in Gaza and shutting down five media outlets in the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem, they said.
