Amman, May 19 (Petra) — The state Security Court, in a public session, handed down verdicts against defendants in terrorist attacks in December, 2022, in which four Public Security officers were killed.
Brig. Gen. Abdul Razzaq Dalabeeh, Captain Ghaith Rahahleh, Lt. Moataz Najada and Corp. Ibrahim Shaqareen were killed and a number of security personnel were injured in the attacks.
After examining the events and facts in the case, the court sentenced the prime suspect to death and convicted two to prison terms of 9 and 20 years with temporary hard labor on charges of committing terrorist acts that led to the death of a person, complicity in terrorist acts that led to the death of a person, possession of a firearm with the intent to use it in terrorist acts, affiliation with a terrorist group, conspiracy to commit terrorist acts, and promoting the ideology of a terrorist group.
They were found guilty of involvement in an organized criminal plot, including the formation of a terrorist cell in Jordan, and conspiracy to carry out terrorist acts against Public Security personnel using firearms.
The court also sentenced another defendant, who had prior knowledge of the terrorist plots but did not report it to authorities, to three years in prison and acquitted the fourth and sixth defendants due to a lack of evidence against them.
In one attack on December 15, 2022, terrorists, who were killed, and the prime suspect targeted a police patrol with firearms and automatic weapons, killing Dalabeeh and injuring a number of officers.
Security forces were tipped off about the terrorists, who were holed up inside a house and moved in on December 19, 2022, but were confronted by the terrorists who opened fire, killing the three other security officers and injuring several other members of the force.
