Amman, May 21 (Petra) – A team of students from Al-Balqa Applied University is representing Jordan in the Huawei ICT Competition Global Final 2024–2025, which officially kicks off today in Shenzhen, China, and continues through Saturday.

The Jordanian team, including Mohammad Abu Sa’a, Lama Hasweh, and Lubna Issa, secured their spot by winning the Network Track during the regional finals of the Middle East and Central Asia (ME&CA) Huawei ICT Competition, held in Riyadh in December.

According to a statement from Huawei on Wednesday, a total of 16 teams from 9 countries across the ME&CA region are participating in the global finals. Alongside Jordan, the delegation includes two teams from Lebanon, winners in the Cloud and Computing tracks, as well as top-performing teams from Iraq, Kazakhstan, and other regional countries.

The delegation also features a distinguished educator from Iraq, in recognition of the essential role that academic mentors play in nurturing the next generation of ICT professionals.

Phillip Gan, President of Huawei Middle East and Central Asia, emphasized the importance of the competition in cultivating digital talent across the region. “The Huawei ICT Competition has remained a pivotal milestone in the region’s ICT talent development efforts,” he said, expressing confidence in the continued success of this new group of young innovators.

In addition to competing for top honors, participants will also be eligible for several special awards, including the Green Development Award, the TECH4ALL Digital Inclusion Award, and the Women in Tech Award, which celebrate innovation in sustainability, accessibility, and gender inclusion.

Huawei also announced plans to launch its “T.H.E. GOLD Talent” program later this year in the region. The initiative will offer specialized AI training designed to address complex industrial challenges, further supporting the development of high-level ICT talent.

Now in its ninth global edition, the Huawei ICT Competition has become one of the leading platforms for identifying and nurturing digital skills among university students. This year’s ME&CA regional rounds saw record-breaking participation, with more than 31,000 students from 640 institutions across 19 countries registering to compete reflecting the growing significance of digital education in the region.
