Amman, May 21 (Petra) – CEO of the Jordan Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund (JREEEF), Rasmi Hamzeh, signed several cooperation agreements on Wednesday with civil society organizations, as part of a national program to support the household sector with solar water heaters.
The initiative is funded by a grant from the Italian Ministry of Environment and Energy Security, in collaboration with the JREEEF.
On eligibility terms, the program serves low-income Jordanian families whose combined monthly income (for a husband and wife) does not exceed JD750 and who own one vehicle.
The step also provides up to 50% of the total system cost, aimed to install around 12,000 solar water heaters across Jordan’s governorates over four years, which complements an existing program that continues to offer a 30% subsidy.
During the signing ceremonies, Hamzeh said the program supports equitable distribution of government aid, enabling families to reduce electricity consumption and shift to renewable energy.
Beneficiaries, he noted, can save around JD20 monthly on their electricity bills, aligning with national efforts to achieve gradual energy transition and improve citizens’ quality of life.
Hamzeh also stressed the importance of JREEEF’s coordination with commercial banks, and local associations to provide “accessible” financing solutions and facilitate implementation.
Applications will be processed through an electronic platform developed in cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Economy and linked to the government’s “Sanad” application. Eligible citizens can register, receive preliminary approval, and choose a certified contractor from an approved list, with preference given to local providers.
