Amman, May 21 (Petra) — Jordan condemned the Israeli occupation forces’ shooting at a diplomatic delegation comprising 25 Arab and European ambassadors and consuls, including the Jordanian ambassador to Ramallah and Arab and foreign journalists.

The delegation was conducting a field visit in occupied Jenin in the occupied West Bank to assess the humanitarian situation in the embattled city.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates spokesperson Sufian Qudah said the Israeli attack is a blatant violation of international law and international humanitarian law, constituting a serious breach of diplomatic norms and a criminal act.

Qudah said Jordan rejects and condemns the Israeli targeting of diplomats, adding that the attack violates diplomatic agreements and norms, particularly the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which lays out the procedures and protections for diplomatic missions and grants them immunity.

Qudah urged the international community to take action and pressure Israel to immediately cease its aggression against Gaza and to halt the dangerous escalation in the occupied West Bank.

He reaffirmed Jordan’s support for the Palestinian people’s legitimate right to establish an independent, sovereign state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He urged the international community to put an end to the crimes committed against the Palestinian people and to hold those responsible accountable.
