Industry Chamber chief urges closer economic ties with Syria

Amman, May 26 (Petra) – Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry President Fathi Jaghbir Monday urged closer economic ties with Syria “for the benefit of the two countries.”

He spoke at the Jordanian-Syrian Economic Forum and Exhibition, which kicked off in Damascus with the participation of 42 Jordanian firms in the reconstruction industry, including infrastructure, building materials, energy, and engineering, where, he said, Jordan has competitive capacities.

Jaghbir stressed the importance of Jordan’s participation, which opens new scopes for Jordanian products in the Syrian market and helps cement economic relations between the two neighboring countries.

He stressed the need to “build on the historical ties and shared interests between the two countries to create a suitable climate for expanding economic cooperation,” adding that removing hurdles to the movement of goods and financial transfers will help facilitate the flow of goods and services and enhance the investment environment in Syria.
