Amman, May 26 (Petra) – The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor said Israeli occupation forces continue to commit horrific massacres by bombing displacement shelters, destroying remaining buildings, and imposing living conditions that make survival impossible. The latest incident targeted a school sheltering displaced people in the Al-Daraj neighborhood in central Gaza City.
According to the monitor, Israeli aircraft launched three strikes on the “Fahmi Al-Jarjawi” school near Sahaba Street in Al-Daraj, which serves as a refuge for hundreds of displaced persons from northern Gaza and Gaza City. The attacks caused massive fires inside classrooms, trapping families inside. The assault killed 31 people, including 18 children and six women, with most bodies completely charred, in addition to several injuries and missing persons.
The monitor emphasized that targeting schools sheltering displaced people, especially women and children, is not accidental but a deliberate and recurring Israeli policy. It constitutes part of the ongoing crime of genocide against Palestinians for more than 19 months.
The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor called for special protection for displacement centers and the establishment of safe humanitarian corridors to ensure aid delivery and evacuation of the wounded. It urged the international community to act immediately to stop Israeli attacks, impose effective measures to protect Palestinian civilians, and end the political and military immunity that allows Israel to continue its crimes without accountability.
The monitor also called on world countries to fulfill their legal responsibilities and take urgent action to halt the genocide in Gaza through all available means, adopt effective measures to protect Palestinian civilians, and ensure Israel complies with international law and International Court of Justice rulings.
