Amman, May 27 (Petra) – Chairman of the Civil Service and Public Administration Commission, Fayez Nahar, took part in the ceremony to honor winners of the 3rd edition of Sharjah Public Finance Award.

The ceremony, which was held at Sharjah Cultural Palace Theater in the UAE Emirate of Sharjah, saw participation of ministers and heads of Arab civil service agencies and a group of experts in the financial management and public administration fields.

In a statement on Tuesday, the commission said the presence comes within the framework of strengthening mutual inter-Arab cooperation and exchanging expertise in the areas of financial and governmental excellence, which would develop performance of government agencies and achieve principles of governance and sustainability.

Nahar noted importance of this “pioneering” Arab award, launched at the initiative of the Sharjah government in 2016, in cooperation with the Arab Administrative Development Organization, to consolidate a culture of excellence and innovation in public finance management.

Nahar stated the “large” Arab engagement reflects the “growing” awareness of the importance of “sound” financial governance, adding that a select group of institutions and individuals from various Arab countries were honored.

The statement announced Jordan enjoyed a “notable” presence, as several institutions and employees garnered prizes in multiple categories.

During the ceremony, Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) secured the “Distinguished Entity in Public Finance Award,” while Jordanian employees from various entities also received “prestigious” individual category prizes.

At the level of Jordanian public employee recognition, Arej Tayseer and Mahmoud Tayem from Jordan’s Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) won the “Distinguished Arab Financial Accountant Award,” Yazan Abdul Hamid Shbilat from Ministry of Agriculture bagged the “Distinguished Arab Financial Controller-Auditor Award.”

Additionally, Ala’a Mahmoud and Mohammed Khatib from Jordan’s Civil Aviation Regulatory commission (CARC) won the “Distinguished Arab Financial Department Head Award,” and Ahmed Jawawdeh from the Income and Sales Tax Department earned the “Distinguished Arab E-Financial Systems Manager Award.”

The commission noted this Arab recognition of Jordanians reflects “competence” of national workforce and “excellence” of Jordanian institutions in adopting best financial practices.

The commission also underscored the Kingdom’s “prestigious” position in the Arab world in the financial management and government excellence fields.
