Amman, May 27 (Petra) – Minister of Culture, Mustafa Rawashdeh, on Tuesday took part in the ceremony to declare Samarkand as the Capital of Islamic Culture 2025 in Uzbekistan.
According to a ministry statement, Rawashdeh praised Jordan-Uzbekistan cultural relations at the ceremony, during which “Amman Message” was distributed in Arabic and English.
The minister said Samarkand is an ancient center of Islam in the Islamic East, and is “rich in distinguished” monuments and cultural landmarks that have made the city a destination of beauty and a historical crossroads of cultures.
The minister added that the city is also a center of influence and a cultural beacon, as seen in its schools and prominent scholars of civilizational thought in the Islamic world.
Rawashdeh commended the city, which continues to present a “true” image of Islamic civilization, with its architectural style and model of tolerance, which reinforced the concept of dialogue among cultures and civilizations.
Rawashdeh said the city’s position contributed to dissemination of the values ??of people-centered mutual coexistence that has earned it the title of Capital of Islamic Culture 2025.
In his speech, the minister pointed to the “deep-rooted” bilateral cultural relations, which is seen in the cultural cooperation agreement signed in Tashkent years ago, referring to a slew of bilateral cultural partnerships, including music festivals and scientific conferences.
Rawashdeh said this occasion represents an opportunity to promote dialogue that enhances the image of Islamic culture and its value system.
On Jordan’s efforts, he pointed to the “significant” contributions of His Majesty King Abdullah II in promoting the genuine, moderate, and tolerant image of Islam, under “Amman Message,” which emphasized essence of true Islam and importance of interfaith harmony.
Rawashdeh commended efforts of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) in spreading Islamic culture.
The minister also hoped this occasion would be an opportunity to deepen benefaction values and advance cultural dialogue that would “positively” impact Islamic peoples and humanity.
