Irbid, June 1 (Petra) – The value of certificates of origin issued by the Irbid Chamber of Industry in May reached $112.6 million, marking a 12.4 percent increase compared to $100.2 million recorded during the same month in 2024.
According to a report issued by the Chamber on Sunday, a total of 1,386 certificates of origin were issued last month, slightly down from 1,440 certificates in May of last year.
The report showed that the textile and leather sector remained the leading export sector, with a total export value of $101.961 million. It was followed by the food, foodstuff, and agricultural products sector with $4.299 million, the chemical industries and cosmetics sector with $2.732 million, and the medical industries and medical supplies sector with $2.490 million. The remaining exports were distributed across the plastic and rubber industries, construction materials, packaging, paper, cardboard, office supplies, and the engineering and electrical industries.
Al Hassan Industrial City accounted for the majority of exports, contributing over 95 percent of the total, followed by Cyber City, which contributed more than 4 percent.
President of the Irbid Chamber of Industry, Hani Abu Hassan, said the overall growth in the value of certificates of origin in May reflects significant increases in exports from four key sectors, with the leather and textile industries leading the expansion.
He noted that the Chamber’s exports under the Arab Agreement decreased by 15.4 percent month-on-month in May, totaling approximately $7.2 million compared to $8.4 million in May 2024.
In contrast, exports under the European Agreement and the American Agreement grew by more than 33.6 percent and 27.4 percent, respectively, month-on-month in May. Abu Hassan said exports covered by trade agreements constituted 81.2 percent of the Chamber’s total exports.
