Amman, June 12 (Petra) — During the first five months of 2025, Jordan saw the registration of 30 patents, including one local invention, reflecting ongoing innovation in the country, according to the Industrial Property Protection Directorate at the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply.

Trademark registrations also remained strong, with 1,734 new trademarks recorded by the end of May and 2,730 renewals processed in the same period. The directorate additionally renewed 250 patents, granted 7 licenses for trademark use, approved updates to the ownership details of 472 industrial properties, and facilitated the transfer of ownership for 837 properties.

In comparison, the previous year recorded 5,687 new trademark registrations, 6,245 renewals, and 111 patents registered, including 8 local innovations.

Under Jordanian law, a patent protects novel technical ideas related to products or manufacturing methods that provide practical solutions to specific challenges. The registration process involves guiding inventors from submission to the issuance of official patents, including detailed reviews to ensure all legal standards are met, as well as procedures designed to maintain transparency for public interests.

Trademarks serve as distinctive signs that identify and differentiate a company’s products or services from those of competitors, playing a vital role in the commercial landscape.
