Amman, June 17 (Petra) – The World Health Organization (WHO) on Tuesday called for urgent access to fuel in Gaza to keep the remaining hospitals operational, warning that the enclave’s healthcare system is on the brink of collapse.
“Fuel has not entered Gaza in more than 100 days, and attempts to bring in supplies from evacuation zones have been denied,” said Rik Peeperkorn, the WHO Representative in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. “This, coupled with critical shortages of medical supplies, is pushing the health system to the verge of total failure.”
Peeperkorn noted that only 17 out of Gaza’s 36 hospitals remain minimally or partially functional, with a combined capacity of about 1,500 beds roughly 45 percent less than the capacity before the conflict began.
He added that all hospitals and primary health care centers in northern Gaza are now out of service.
