Amman, June 30 (Petra) – The Private Hospitals Association (PHA) held a meeting of hospital directors, chaired by PHA President Dr. Fawzi Hammouri and attended by board members, to advance the royal initiative launched by His Majesty King Abdullah II to treat children from Gaza in Jordan.

During the meeting, held Sunday at the association’s headquarters, Hammouri stressed the vital role of Jordan’s private healthcare sector in supporting the people of Gaza amid the collapse of the health system there, brought on by Israeli attacks targeting medical facilities and the blockade of humanitarian and medical aid.

He praised the efforts of private hospitals in treating over 50 children from Gaza, providing them with necessary medical care, and offering free accommodation to accompanying relatives. He also noted that several hospitals had expressed their continued readiness to receive a new group of children expected to arrive in the coming days, in addition to those receiving cancer treatment at King Hussein Cancer Center.

Receiving and treating around 2,000 children from Gaza requires high-level coordination, Hammouri said, noting that the PHA had been in contact with the Prime Minister and the Minister of Health since the onset of the crisis to organize the reception, treatment, and surgical care required before the children return to Gaza.

Dr. Imad Abu Al-Yaqin, Director of the Technical Affairs Directorate at the Ministry of Health, outlined the challenges in transferring patients from Gaza to Jordan due to the ongoing conflict, particularly the difficulty of securing permits for patients and their companions, as well as logistical obstacles posed by the blockade.

Hospital directors presented suggestions to streamline the reception and treatment process. It was agreed to distribute cases based on each hospital’s capacity and specializations. The meeting also addressed logistical and medical challenges and explored ways to ensure comprehensive healthcare for the injured children.
