Amman, July 3 (Petra) — Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture Mohammad Hiyari announced that the ministry is preparing to launch a national committee to monitor the quality of local honey, in cooperation with all relevant entities, to strengthen consumer trust in Jordanian honey products locally and internationally.
He pointed out that the ministry gives special attention to the beekeeping sector and works to develop a supportive environment by establishing economic artificial forests that help improve nectar sources and boost production efficiency.
This came during the opening of the first Jordanian Honey Festival on Thursday at Al Hussein Gardens, with the participation of beekeepers, cooperatives, and productive rural families.
Hiyari stressed the importance of the beekeeping sector, which has become a leading industry in Jordan and has seen significant growth in the number of beekeepers and the quality of production. He noted that Jordanian honey is of high quality and is exported to several countries.
He added that the festival serves as an effective platform to support and empower rural communities, especially productive rural women, by marketing their traditional agricultural and food products, which enhances sustainable local development and supports rural food industries.
For his part, the President of the Jordanian Beekeepers Union Muath Kazem explained that the three-day festival features more than 100 exhibitors, including beekeepers, cooperatives, and productive families from various governorates across the Kingdom.
He confirmed that all honey products displayed at the festival have undergone laboratory testing according to approved standards and are of high quality and compliant with specifications, boosting the reputation of Jordanian honey in markets.
The festival’s program includes recreational and educational activities for children and families, as well as daily raffles and prizes for visitors. The event is part of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Beekeepers Union’s efforts to raise awareness about the importance of bee products, encourage their consumption, support local production, and empower small producers.
