Amman, July 13 (Petra) -Himaya (protection) platform received a total of 214 labor-related complaints for failure of some private sector establishments to pay the minimum wage during the first five months of this year.
In response to inquiries from “Petra,” Ministry of Labor Spokesperson Mohammad Zyoud said 98% of these worker were resolved.
Zyoud noted the ministry “highly prioritizes” monitoring establishments’ compliance with the minimum wage requirements, both under its inspection tours and complaints sent to Himaya” platform by private sector workers.
Zyoud stated the platform provides the “option of confidentiality” and classifies cases as non-compliance with paying the minimum wage, rather than wage non-payment.
Under Article 46 of Jordan Labor Law, he said the worker wage and overtime allowance shall be paid by the employer within a maximum 7-day period from the due date.
Zyoud indicated that the decision of the Tripartite Committee for Labor Affairs to raise the minimum wage went into effect at the beginning of 2025 to JD290 per month.
Zyoud remarked Article 53 of Jordan Labor Law secures penalties for violating entities, mainly a fine of JD500-JD1,000 range for each case, , while the penalty is doubled in the event of a repeat violation.
