Amman, July 13 (Petra) European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced Sunday that the European Union will extend its suspension of retaliatory tariffs against the United States in a bid to reach a negotiated settlement and avoid the imposition of 30% U.S. tariffs on EU exports.
According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), von der Leyen said, “The United States has sent us a message outlining measures it intends to implement unless a negotiated solution is reached. Therefore, we will extend our own suspension of countermeasures until August 1.”
The current suspension of EU countermeasures was set to expire at midnight between Monday and Tuesday.
On Saturday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans to impose a 30% tariff on imports from both Mexico and the European Union if no agreement is reached by August 1.
