Cairo, July 13 (Petra) – The Committee for Coordination and Follow-up with Arab Organizations, a subsidiary of the Arab Economic and Social Council, commenced a five-day meeting Sunday at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo, with participation from finance, economy, and trade ministries of member states, alongside directors-general of specialized Arab organizations.
Raed Al-Jubouri, Director of the Department of Arab Organizations and Federations at the Council’s Technical Secretariat, stated the session will address organizational, financial, administrative, and structural reforms for Arab specialized bodies. The recommendations will be presented to the 116th ordinary session of the Economic and Social Council, scheduled for August 31-September 3.
Established by a 1988 council resolution, the committee serves as a key technical mechanism supporting Arab institutional integration. Al-Jubouri noted it annually reviews oversight reports, final accounts, and financial statements, while biennially assessing organizations’ budgets and operational plans.
Ongoing priorities include monitoring member states’ arrears to Arab organizations’ budgets, reviewing Arab Monetary Fund reports, and coordinating the General Secretariat’s participation in legislative and executive bodies. The committee also oversees two technical subcommittees one unifying foundational statutes of Arab organizations, the other standardizing financial and accounting systems whose outputs were previously approved by the Council.
Current agenda items include discussing reports from recent meetings of the technical committee studying unified foundational systems.
