Occupied Jerusalem, July 21 (Petra) – The Jerusalem Governorate warned on Monday that a decision by Israeli occupation authorities to advance the “E1” settlement scheme east of Jerusalem is “a dangerous step” aimed to impose Judaization facts on the ground and undermine any prospect for a just and lasting political solution.

“This plan, which was revived after years of being in limbo under international pressure, is one of the most dangerous settlement enterprises as it seeks to divide the West Bank into two separate parts, and isolate Jerusalem from its Palestinian surroundings, effectively eliminating any possibility of a contiguous Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital,” the Jerusalem (AL Quds) Governorate said in a statement.

“Implementation of this project would destroy the Palestinian urban fabric between Ramallah, Jerusalem, and Bethlehem and threaten the lives of about one million people through creating a settlement connection in the heart of the West Bank, in a flagrant violation of repeated international warnings,” the statement said.

It comes as the world’s attention is focused on the war on the Gaza Strip with Israel seizing crises to impose illegal facts on the ground,” it said, calling the settlement expansion scheme “a political crime added to the occupation authority’s long record of violations.”

The statement called on the United Nations and the international community, especially peace sponsors, to take effective and immediate action to halt the plan, which portends a dangerous escalation that threatens regional and international security and stability.
