Amman, July 23 (Petra) – The Jordanian Media Credibility Monitor (AKEED) announced that it documented 547 rumors during the first half of 2025, an increase from 354 rumors in the same period last year.

In its latest report released on Wednesday, AKEED noted that the average number of rumors per month in the first half of this year was 91, up from 59 per month during the same months of the previous year.

The report revealed that 108 of the rumors were publicly denied, averaging 18 denials per month, compared to 96 denials (16 per month) in the first half of last year.

The report highlighted the distribution of rumors across various categories: political rumors led with 171 instances (31%), followed by security-related rumors with 124 (23%), economic rumors with 99 (18%), social rumors with 98 (18%), public affairs with 44 (8%) and health-related rumors with 11 (2%).

Regarding sources, the report indicated that the majority of rumors 478 (87%) originated internally, while 69 (13%) came from external sources.

Social media was the primary platform for the rumors, accounting for 494 (90%), whereas mainstream media contributed to 53 (10%).
