Jordan, Egypt sign agreements to strengthen trade, energy, tourism partnership

Amman, August 12 (Petra) – Jordan and Egypt signed nine agreements on Tuesday aimed at boosting strategic cooperation in energy, trade, investment and tourism.

The agreements were signed at the conclusion of the 33rd session of the Jordanian-Egyptian Joint Higher Committee, co-chaired in Amman by Jordanian Prime Minister Jafar Hassan and Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.

Stronger energy and trade ties

Hassan and Madbouly discussed strengthening energy cooperation, particularly in electrical interconnection and gas supplies, describing the collaboration as a “model” for the region.

Both leaders agreed on the urgency to accelerate joint infrastructure projects and activating the delayed tripartite cooperation framework with Iraq.

Hassan said the agreements reflect a shared vision to “transform historical ties into concrete development opportunities,” noting rising trade volumes and growing Jordanian private sector investments in Egypt.

He called for creating job opportunities through expanded regional investment and economic modernisation.

Joint stance on Gaza, West Bank and regional stability

On regional issues, Hassan and Madbouly issued a strong joint condemnation of Israeli violations in Gaza and the the occupied West Bank, calling for an immediate end to the war in Gaza, the unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid and a halt to demographic and geographic changes in Palestinian territories.

“Jordan and Egypt are fully aligned on rejecting any attempts to alter the reality in Gaza or the West Bank,” Madbouly said, noting that coordination between Cairo and Amman remains robust on all regional files.

Hassan praised Egypt’s mediation role in Gaza and reaffirmed ongoing coordination at the highest levels between the two countries’ leaderships.

Support for Syria and broader Arab cooperation

On Syria, Hassan voiced Jordan’s support for the new Syrian government, expressing readiness to cooperate on security, economic and humanitarian fronts. He reiterated Jordan’s commitment to a stable, united Syria.

Nine agreements signed across strategic sectors:

A scientific cooperation programme between Jordan’s Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation and Egypt’s National Planning Institute.

A 2025–2026 executive programme between Jordan’s Free and Development Zones Group and Egypt’s Investment and Free Zones Authority.

MoUs on consumer protection, finance, local development and government procurement.

A cultural heritage agreement to combat illicit trafficking in antiquities.

An executive youth cooperation programme for 2025–2028.

A programme to implement a prior MoU between the two countries’ Ministries of Endowments.

Trade up 30%, investment forum planned

Jordan’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yarub Qudah reported a 30% increase in trade with Egypt, attributing the growth to improved coordination and economic alignment.

Qudah announced that a Jordanian-Egyptian investment forum will be held later this year to spotlight high-potential projects.

His Egyptian counterpart, Rania Mashat, praised the Joint Committee’s year-round coordination, calling it a key driver of progress and continuity.

High-level delegations attend talks

The meetings were attended by senior ministers from both countries, including officials responsible for transport, energy, finance, labour, local development and planning.

A formal welcoming ceremony was held for Prime Minister Madbouly, including a guard of honour and national anthems.
