Amman, August 12 (Petra) – Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi met Tuesday with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Shaibani in Amman, ahead of a Jordanian-Syrian-US tripartite meeting focused on the situation in Syria.
The two ministers discussed ties between the two countries and enhancing cooperation across various sectors, in line with directives from the leaderships of Jordan and Syria.
Talks covered efforts to uphold the ceasefire in Syria’s southern Sweida Governorate and explore peaceful resolutions to the ongoing unrest there.
Safadi reiterated Jordan’s firm position in support of Syria’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity. He underscored Amman’s backing of Damascus’ reconstruction efforts, emphasising that any path forward must preserve the rights and safety of all Syrians and ensure the country’s long-term stability and security.
“Jordan remains committed to a stable, sovereign and unified Syria,” Safadi said, warning against all forms of foreign interference. He said that Syria’s security is a cornerstone of regional stability and called on all actors to respect Syrian sovereignty.
The top diplomats condemned continued Israeli airstrikes and incursions into Syrian territory as a violation of international law and a threat to regional security.
They emphasised that such actions undermine Syria’s sovereignty and contravene the 1974 Disengagement Agreement between Syria and Israel.
For his part, Shaibani praised Jordan’s ongoing support for Syria’s reconstruction efforts and its principled stance on preserving the country’s sovereignty, stability and the well-being of its people.
