Drug dealers, traffickers arrested in security campaigns

Amman, August 13 (Petra) – The Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) cracked down on drug dealers and traffickers in over a week of security operations in central and southern Amman.

The Public Security Directorate (PSD) stated that a campaign in the Jabal Al-Taj area resulted in the arrest of eight individuals and the seizure of various quantities of narcotics.

A second operation in southern Amman led to the arrest of nine more suspects, along with the confiscation of drugs and firearms, the PSD stated.

Authorities worked on three drug smuggling cases. Two occurred at the Jaber border crossing:

In the first case, a man was arrested after customs officials found 20,000 narcotic pills hidden in boxes. He reportedly intended to smuggle the drugs to a neighbouring country.

In the second, two suspects were caught attempting to smuggle 15,000 pills into Jordan, concealed in a secret compartment of a vehicle.

In the third case, three suspects in Amman were arrested while preparing 7,000 pills for smuggling. The drugs were found hidden in their vehicle following surveillance and inspection.

Additional arrests were made in separate trafficking cases:

In Aqaba, a drug dealer was apprehended after resisting arrest; authorities seized ten hashish tablets and a firearm.

East of Amman, two dealers were found with six hashish tablets and another was caught with four tablets.

The PSD affirmed that operations targeting drug-related crimes will continue across all regions of the Kingdom.
