Amman, Aug 13 (Petra) – The Ministry of Water and Irrigation, in cooperation with security bodies, detected an assault on a 400 mm water main that pumps treated water for use in irrigation in Giza, south of Amman.
The water theft was through extension of an 8-inch water pipe concealed in a tunnel near the South Amman water treatment plant to illegally draw water, depriving eligible farmers of their full shares of water, the ministry said.
The illegal pipe was disconnected and the offenders will be referred to judicial authorities for legal action according to the law, it said.
The ministry said its crackdown on the diversion of water lines is ongoing, urging the public to report any such breaches.
