Senate Palestine Committee condemns Israeli PM remark on Jordan

Amman, Aug 13 (Petra) — The Senate’s Palestine Committee on Wednesday denounced a remark by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in which he declared he is attached to the vision of a “Greater Israel”, which includes occupied Palestinian territory as well as parts of Egypt and Jordan.

“We strongly condemn the dangerous statements by the occupation’s prime minister, in which he declared his ideological connection to the vision of so-called Greater Israel, which includes lands of Egypt and Jordan, that clearly reveal his expansionist colonial ambitions that are completely rejected.” Committee Chairman Senator Mazen Darwazah and members said.

“These barbaric and provocative statements represent a direct threat to regional peace and security, a flagrant violation of international law and international legitimacy resolutions, and a failed attempt to revive the illusion of expansion at the expense of peoples and their established historical rights, foremost among them are the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state on their national soil with East Jerusalem as its capital,”said the committee.

The statement reiterated that Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, the historic custodian over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, will remain a protector of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, and a bulwark against any attempt to undermine their Arab, Islamic, and Christian identities.

His Majesty, and the proud Jordanian people who stand behind him, will not waver in countering such fake ambitions and provocative statements, and will remain a solid barrier against attempt to undermine the Kingdom’s sovereignty and dignity.

The committee’s statement called on the international community, the UN Security Council, to shoulder its legal and moral responsibility to confront such aggressive policies, protect the region from their disastrous consequences, and support the Palestinian people’s legitimate right to self-determination.
