Gaza Health Ministry: 70 killed in Israeli bombings, death toll to 61,897 

Gaza Strip, Aug 16 (Petra) — Seventy Palestinians were killed and 385 wounded in Israeli bombings and air strikes across the Gaza Strip in the last 24 hours, the Gaza Health Ministry said on Saturday.

That took the to 61,897 the death toll from Israel’s ongoing aggression which began on October 7, 2023, and the total number of injuries climbed to 155,660, it said in its latest update of casualty figures. It said many victims remained under the rubble of targeted buildings and on roads, inaccessible by civil defense and ambulance teams.

The ministry said 26 dead and 175 injured people, who were targeted by Israeli forces at aid distribution points, arrived in hospitals across Gaza, raising the number of “bread martyrs” to 1,924 and more than 14,288.

Gaza hospitals also recorded 11 fatalities, including 1 child, from starvation and malnutrition in the last 24 hours, raising the total to 251, including 108 children, it said.
