Amman, August 18 (Petra) – Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi met on Monday with UN Under-Secretary-General for Safety and Security Gilles Michaud to discuss regional developments and ways to strengthen cooperation.
The discussions focused on the humanitarian situation in Gaza and efforts to enhance coordination with UN humanitarian agencies to ensure the delivery of aid to the Strip.
Safadi warned of the unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Gaza due to the ongoing Israeli war and the use of starvation as a weapon acts he described as clear violations of international law.
Safadi reaffirmed Jordan’s firm support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), emphasising its role in providing essential services to Palestinian refugees in its five areas of operation, in accordance with its UN mandate.
He underscored the urgent need to end the Israeli war on Gaza and called for support of Qatari, Egyptian and American efforts to broker a prisoner exchange agreement that would pave the way for a permanent ceasefire.
