Institute Concludes Project on Workplace Safety, Combating Violence

Amman, Aug. 20 (Petra) – The Solidarity Is Global Institute-JO (SIGI) on Wednesday concluded its multi-year project “Safe Pathways – Policies to Combat Violence in the Workplace and World,” supported by the African Women’s Development Fund.

The closing ceremony gathered representatives of official institutions, civil society organizations, academia, media, and human rights defenders to present success stories and discuss the project’s recommendations aimed at sustaining national efforts to safeguard women in the workplace.

The project sought to strengthen the role of civil society and improve legal frameworks governing women’s working conditions, thereby supporting economic empowerment and expanding women’s participation in the labor market.

Independent Election Commission Board Member Abeer Dababneh delivered an analysis of the project, stressing that safety constitutes the foundation for empowerment, underscoring the need for inclusive approaches that recognize both men’s and women’s roles in family and professional life.

Institute President Iman Hussein described the organization as a long-standing national institution committed to justice and gender equality, while its Advisor and Executive Director, Enaam Asha, emphasized the importance of civil society as a strategic partner to official bodies in addressing workplace violence.

The event featured four dialogue sessions. The first, presented by Jordanian National Commission for Women Assistant Secretary-General for Administrative Affairs Nisreen Sayed, addressed the Commission’s role in advancing women’s labor market participation. The second, led by Fidaa Hamoud, focused on legal developments affecting women in the workplace. The third, presented by Maysoun Atoum, examined women’s participation in the labor market and its social impacts, complemented by insights from Amer Hafi on religious and social perspectives. The final session, presented by Linda Maayah, analyzed women’s economic participation from a media standpoint.
