Ajloun Festivals Boost Tourism, Economy, Highlight Heritage

Ajloun, Aug. 20 (Petra) – Ajloun Governorate is witnessing increasing tourism and economic activity, driven by a series of cultural and artistic festivals and events that have attracted visitors from inside and outside the governorate, revitalizing local markets and enhancing the region’s tourism presence.

Director General of the Irada Initiative for Local Community Development, Sami Alimi, said the bazaars and festivals organized annually by the initiative have contributed to showcasing local heritage and handicrafts that reflect the identity of Jordanian society. He highlighted the strong turnout of visitors and tourists, who expressed admiration for the diverse exhibits, including embroidery, wood products, artwork, and traditional accessories.

Alimi explained that these bazaars not only provide entertainment but also empower local artisans and open marketing outlets for their products, in addition to integrating heritage events into the broader tourism experience sought by visitors.

Director of the Ajloun Development Zone, Tariq Maaytah, said these events played a significant role in stimulating commercial activity, increasing demand for restaurants and tourist facilities, and raising occupancy rates in hotels and hospitality establishments.

He underlined that the festivals also aim to highlight Ajloun’s unique natural and historical assets and enhance its position on the domestic tourism map. He noted that the “Cable Car Summer” festival, currently underway, provided an important platform for local associations and initiatives to market their traditional and handicraft products, particularly as the cable car site continues to attract strong tourist traffic.

Director of Ajloun Tourism, Firas Khatatbeh, stressed the importance of such initiatives in supporting efforts to promote the governorate’s tourist and archaeological sites, which are distinguished by natural and environmental features that make them an ideal destination for rest and recreation, including Ajloun Castle, the cable car, and other attractions.

Participants, shop owners, and community members praised the festivals, citing their positive impact in supporting the local economy, creating temporary job opportunities for youth, and positioning Ajloun as a unique tourist destination. They called for the continuation of these activities, given their effective role in driving tourism and economic development and enhancing Ajloun’s national standing.
