E-commerce regulation will drive garment sector’s growth-Syndicate

Amman, August 26 (Petra) – Textile, Readymade Clothes and Footwear Syndicate commended national efforts to issue an e-commerce regulation, as an “advanced” step to achieve “fair and equitable” umbrella that serves all parties and supports the sector’s stability and growth.

In a statement on Tuesday, the syndicate said the move will achieve a balance in the trader-consumer rights and regulate the legal relationship for courier companies, buyers, and merchants.

The statement added that the step would contribute to address many challenges facing the sector and enhancing “competitiveness of Jordanian merchants.”

The regulation was drafted with the engagement of all relevant stakeholders under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply.

On its provisions, the parcel trade rules were prepared within recent reviews of the best global and regional practices and integration of advanced methods commonly used in controlling e-commerce internationally.

As for its role, the syndicate noted its contribution to drafting the new system, based on its awareness of the importance of regulating the e-commerce sector, given its direct impact on the clothing, footwear, and textiles sector.

Pledging its continued future monitoring efforts, the syndicate said it will follow up on the related executive instructions, provide feedback, ensure protection of the sector’s interests and actively participate in formulating executive decisions.
