Amman, August 28 (Petra) — The Director General of the Department of Palestinian Affairs, Rafiq Khirfan, on Thursday welcomed Reem Alabali-Radovan, Germany’s Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, during her field visit to Hittin Camp to assess the living conditions and daily needs of Palestinian refugees.
The visit was attended by Natalie Boucly, Deputy Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), and Olaf Becker, UNRWA’s Director of Affairs in Jordan.
During the meeting, Khirfan expressed deep appreciation for Germany’s pivotal role in supporting Palestinian refugees. He highlighted Germany’s generous financial contributions to UNRWA and its support for development initiatives implemented in collaboration with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the German Development Bank (KfW).
Khirfan noted that German-backed programs, such as REPAC and PART, have had a direct and tangible impact on improving living conditions in Palestinian camps, particularly in the areas of infrastructure enhancement and housing rehabilitation.
He also stressed that sustained support for UNRWA is critical amid the agency’s ongoing financial challenges, emphasizing that continued German assistance remains a cornerstone in ensuring the stability and continuity of vital services for refugees across the region.
