Jordan Chamber of Industry explores trade, industrial cooperation with South Africa

Amman, August 31 (Petra) – Vice President of the Jordan Chamber of Industry Mohammad Jitan met Sunday with South African Ambassador to Jordan Tselani Mokoena to discuss economic ties and trade.

The meeting, attended by the Chamber’s Director General, Hazem Rahahleh, focused on opportunities for expanding cooperation, particularly in the food, chemicals, clothing and pharmaceutical sectors.

Jitan highlighted South Africa as a promising market for Jordanian products and urged addressing barriers to the flow of goods and promoting stronger business-to-business connections.

He noted that the Chamber is actively encouraging Jordanian companies to explore untapped export opportunities to South Africa, which are estimated at around $27 million.

Mokoena expressed appreciation for the strength of Jordanian industry and affirmed South Africa’s interest in building strategic partnerships with Jordan’s industrial sector.

She called for enhancing direct communication between business communities through trade missions and delegations and encouraged leveraging Jordan’s strategic location as a gateway to Arab markets.

According to Chamber data, trade between Jordan and South Africa reached $87.5 million in 2024, including $9.5 million in Jordanian exports and $78 million in imports.

Key Jordanian exports to South Africa include potassium nitrate, calcium carbonate, pharmaceuticals and clothing, while major imports consist of meat, citrus fruits and automobiles.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to expanding industrial and investment cooperation through participation in economic forums and trade exhibitions.
