Gaza, Aug 31 (Petra) – The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate (PJS) on Sunday strongly condemned Israel’s continued targeting of journalists in the Gaza Strip, saying the killing of reporter Islam Abed constitutes a full-fledged war crime and a “stain of shame that will haunt the murderers of truth.”
In a statement, the PJS said Israel has recorded “unprecedented numbers” in killing journalists, with the ongoing assault on Gaza claiming the largest toll of media professionals in the history of modern conflicts. It described the killings as a systematic policy aimed at silencing the Palestinian voice and preventing the world from witnessing Israeli crimes.
The PJS held Israel fully responsible for the death of Abed and all journalists who have been killed while carrying out their professional duties.
It urged international human rights and media organizations to take swift and effective action to hold Israeli leaders accountable for what it called ongoing crimes against Palestinian journalism.
The statement affirmed that the blood of slain journalists will continue to illuminate the truth, stressing that “neither the camera nor the pen will be silenced by intimidation and deliberate killing.”
