Jordan Mobile Amputee Support Unit continues operations in Gaza

Amman, Sept 1 (Petra) – The Mobile Amputee Support Unit of the Jordanian Field Hospital “South Gaza/7” Monday continued its humanitarian services to amputees as part of the “Restore Hope” initiative, under the supervision of the Royal Medical Services in cooperation with the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization and local partners.

In implementation of the directives of His Majesty the King, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, hospital staff have installed 583 prosthetic limbs since their arrival on the mission, the hospital’s force commander said.

It is a continuation of their efforts to alleviate the suffering of amputees, improve their lives and help them go around their daily business, he added.

Prosthetic limb installation is a qualitative achievement, as the procedure takes just one hour, he said, adding that the devices are adjustable allowing patients to easily use them to suit their individual needs.

A prosthetist at the unit stressed the importance of physical rehabilitation in helping limb patients adapt to the new devices. He said medical teams provide physical therapy sessions, psychological and social support, and awareness-raising guidance on limb care to enhance patients’ independence and boost their spirits.

These sessions are conducted through two mobile clinics that provide the necessary medical support.

Limb replacements are documented electronically via Jordan’s “Hakim” program, allowing patients to follow up remotely with a rehabilitation specialist in the Kingdom to ensure continuity of healthcare.
