New York, Sept 8 (Petra) – UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk said Israel’s mass killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza, its infliction of “indescribable suffering and widespread destruction,” its obstruction of life-saving aid, and the starvation of civilians “shock the conscience of the world.”
In a briefing to the Human Rights Council, Türk also accused Israeli forces of deliberately killing journalists, UN staff and NGO workers, “alongside committing one war crime after another.”
“Further militarization, occupation, annexation and repression will only fuel more violence, revenge and terrorism,” he said, asking, “Where are the decisive steps to prevent genocide? And why are states not doing more to avert these atrocious crimes?”
